North Carolina Woman Faces Murder Charge for Alleged Starvation of 10-Year-Old Son

According to authorities, a mother from North Carolina who is suspected of starving her 10-year-old son is accused of murder and negligent child abuse in connection with his demise.

Morrisville police reported that the woman was taken into custody on Thursday. When officers arrived at the residence on Wednesday, the boy was not breathing and was not able to be revived.

The town of Morrisville released a statement that said, “It was determined that significant time had passed since the child’s death due to the state of the body.” According to the police, the boy’s body was decomposing.

The warrants state that she starved the boy, but they did not specify how long. According to the authorities, the boy’s death was likely caused in part by abuse and neglect.

A judge on Thursday ordered the woman to be detained without bond and to have the capital defender’s office represent her during a brief court appearance, according to the News & Observer. According to that office, an attorney has not yet been assigned to her case.
