Two Years After Tragic Death, Radderian Barnes Homicide Case Sees Progress as Suspects Await Trial

The murder of Radderian “Rae Rae” D. Barnes, who was found in Douglas with numerous gunshot wounds before being declared dead at Coffee Regional Medical Center, occurred two years ago today. In connection with his killing, two individuals were detained for trial on murder charges.

At that time, on January 13, 2022, police and investigators were called to a shooting incident at 910 Juanita St. in Douglas, according to a release from the Douglas Police Department. Officers found Barnes with multiple gunshot wounds when they arrived, according to officials.

Barnes passed away from his wounds at Coffee Regional Medical Center after being sent there right away.

The initial suspect in Barnes’ death, Michael Jerome Arnold, was 25 years old when he was taken into custody by police in March 2022 with the help of the US Marshals. Regarding Barnes’s passing, Arnold was accused of felony murder, possession of a firearm while committing a crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Officers obtained arrest warrants for Sedric Jermaine Powell Jr., a second suspect, in June as the investigation went on. Powell was apprehended in Jacksonville, Florida on June 17, 2022, and charged with armed robbery, felonious murder, possession of a firearm while committing a crime, and malicious murder.

The two accused were later indicted by a grand jury, and authorities withheld any additional details.

However, additional details of Barnes’ demise were made public in January 2023 at Arnold’s bond hearing in Coffee County Superior Court.

John Rumker, the assistant district attorney, informed the judge at the hearing,

“This defendant entered Radderian Barnes’ residence and pilfered from the sufferer. He shot the victim in the back of his house, and I believe he had four or five bullet wounds from that incident as well as another one in the street.

Powell and Arnold were detained after their arrest and were not released on bond.

So where is the case right now?

According to documents filed in the Superior Court of Coffee County, the matter will be discussed with updates made by both the state and defense during the next status conference on January 25.
