A Manhunt is Underway After Convicts Break Out of Jail

Police in Louisiana announced on Monday that they have apprehended two out of the four inmates who escaped from jail over the weekend. Surprisingly, the guards who were responsible for monitoring them were unaware of their escape.

Omarion Hookfin, who is 19 years old, Avery Guidry, who is also 19 years old, Jamarcus Cyprian, who is 20 years old, and Travon Johnson, who is 21 years old, all escaped from the Tangipahoa Parish Jail. Chief Jimmy Travis of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office shared this information during a news conference on Monday. The inmates were able to escape by going through a weak part of the jail’s chain-linked fence on Saturday and Sunday.

The officials of the jail were not aware of the breakouts until they got a phone call on Sunday afternoon from a family member of one of the escapees, Travis said. According to Travis, a family member informed them that two prisoners escaped on Saturday and showed up at their relative’s house in the middle of the night, asking for a place to stay.

The chief said that two other inmates had already escaped by the time the jail staff took action. “I’m very worried.” “If they had done the head counts correctly, we would have known about it right away,” Travis said.

According to the police, the chief said that investigators quickly found Johnson and Guidry after receiving a call from someone who reported seeing them.

According to the police, the two people who were arrested in relation to a murder in Hammond, Louisiana in 2022 were found hiding in a dumpster behind a Dollar General store. The store was about 22 miles away from the jail.

According to police records, Hookfin and Cyprian are still on the run after being arrested for different crimes. Hookfin was connected to a 2022 homicide, while Cyprian was serving time for armed robbery and weapon charges. Travis believes they are no longer in Tangipahoa Parish.

Travis said that the investigation into the breakout is still happening. Investigators are looking at all the evidence and clues. It seems that the suspects broke through a rusty part of the fence while they were out for recreation time.

“Travis said that it seems like they managed to escape by going through a wall and climbing over two fences while hiding and waiting until it was dark,” Travis couldn’t say right away when the detainee escaped, but he did mention that two escaped on Saturday and two escaped on Sunday.

The chief admitted that there were not enough staff members at the jail and some of them were inexperienced. However, he stated that this should not be used as an excuse for what occurred. “We had a problem that we need to fix and move on from,” Travis said.
