Storm in Argentina Kills at Least 13

A major storm in Argentina has resulted in significant devastation, particularly in the port city of Bahia Blanca. Argentina’s President Javier Milei, along with cabinet members, visited the city to assess the damage caused by the storm. The most tragic outcome of this natural disaster was the collapse of a sports center roof due to heavy rains and winds, which led to the deaths of at least 13 people.

Additionally, at least 14 individuals inside the center suffered injuries from the incident. The storm continued its path to Argentina’s capital, causing further destruction like downing trees and triggering power outages. This severe weather event also impacted neighboring Uruguay, where two people lost their lives

To stay safe during storms like the one that impacted Argentina, consider these safety tips:

  1. Stay Informed: Keep updated with local weather forecasts and warnings.
  2. Secure Your Home: Reinforce windows, doors, and roofs to withstand high winds.
  3. Avoid Flood Waters: Don’t walk or drive through flood waters. Just a few inches of moving water can be dangerous.
  4. Seek Shelter: During heavy storms, stay indoors, preferably in a basement or small interior room away from windows.
  5. Prepare Emergency Kits: Have a kit with essentials like water, non-perishable food, medications, flashlights, and a first aid kit.
  6. Power Outage Preparedness: If there’s a power outage, disconnect appliances to avoid power surge damage and use generators safely outdoors.
  7. Follow Official Instructions: Heed evacuation orders and other instructions from local authorities.
  8. Check on Neighbors: After the storm passes, check on neighbors, especially those who might need extra help, like the elderly or those with disabilities.

Always prioritize safety and plan ahead to mitigate risks during severe weather events.
