Who the Buc are you?
The Round Table got the opportunity to sit down with T’Aira Boyance’23 and find out Who the Buc she is!
The Round Table: Where are you from?
T’Aira Boyance: Houston, TX.”
RT: What is your major?
TB: “Double major in psychology and biology.”
RT: What is your plan after college?
TB: “I plan to get into a neuroscience graduate program and then residency.”
RT: How did you choose Beloit?
TB: “The amazing bio and psych department, when I first came on my visit, caught my eye. They told me all about the successful students they had in the past who wanted to do something similar to what I want to do. I also chose Beloit because they recruited me to play basketball. My last deciding factor was going to a new place, and Texas and Wisconsin are very different.”
RT: When did you start playing basketball and how did you get into it?
TB: “I started playing basketball in middle school (5th grade) with my best friend at the time. We were really close and our parents put us in the same things.”
RT: What is your favorite aspect of basketball?
TB: “I love how competitive it is and the strategy aspect of the game of reading your defender.”
RT: How long have you competed?
TB: “Since I was in 5th grade.”
RT: How do you get hyped for a game?
TB: “Music, music, music; and talking with the team.”
RT: What’s your favorite memory with the team?
TB: “Recently, it’s been the tournament we had this weekend. We didn’t get the results that we wanted, but it definitely made us closer.”
RT: Does the team have any traditions?
TB: “Yeah, we pray before each game and at the end of the year we have a senior roast.”
RT: What does a typical practice look like?
TB: “Combination of shooting, ball handling and moves to basket. Next, we go into defense drills and how to read and play different strategies. Afterwards, we scrimmage and go into plays. And, we finish with free throws and shots.”
RT: What are some of your goals in basketball and in life?
TB: “In basketball I want to win conference and go to nationals. And create a new record much like the soccer team did. In life I would like to travel the world.”
RT: Do you have any superstitions?
TB: “I never open umbrellas indoors.”
RT: Do you have any pets? Names? Breed?
TB: “Yes, 2 dogs. A German Shepherd named Jasper and a Maltipoo named Spirit.”
RT: If you could have any superpower what would it be?
TB: “To teleport or either fly.”
RT: If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
TB: “Recently my friends and I thought it would be really cool to go to Idaho and see white sand.”
RT: Stance on pineapple on pizza? Why or why not?
TB: “I love it and I think it adds extra flavor to the pizza.”
