Who the Buc are you? With Caden Anderson ’23
The Round Table got the opportunity to sit down with Caden Anderson’23 and find out Who the Buc he is!
The Round Table: Where are you from?
Anderson: “Westmont, Illinois. About 30 minutes West of Chicago”
RT: What is your major?
Anderson: “Economics and Sociology”
RT: What is your plan after college?
Anderson: “Get a job in either investment management or portfolio management. If not one of those, then some job in the finance field.”
RT: How did you choose Beloit?
Anderson: “At first, I was set on going to a different school to play, but one day Matt O’Leary (on the baseball team, known each other since first grade) told me in english class in high school that he was probably going to go to Beloit, so I decided as a joke to fill out a recruiting questionnaire for Beloit. The next day, I got an email from the old coach asking me to come and visit. When I visited, Beloit just had a different feeling than any of my other visits, and that’s when I knew I wanted to come here.”
RT: When did you start playing basketball and how did you get into it?
Anderson: “I started in 1st grade and I got into it by going to all of my older sister’s basketball games and watching her as a kid. My sister was my role model growing up, so I learned a lot about basketball and life from her.”
RT: What is your favorite aspect of basketball?
Anderson: “I like shooting, but nothing beats throwing a nice pass to someone so that they get an open shot and make it. I also like the strategy of the game and trying to make adjustments to what the other team is doing.”
RT: How long have you competed?
Anderson: “I have competed since 1st grade. So about 14 or 15 years.”
RT: How do you get hyped for a game?
Anderson: “I get hyped by listening to music before the game. Who I listen to can vary, but usually I listen to Drake, Kanye, Jack Harlow, NAV, Lil Uzi Vert, J Cole or Lil Baby.”
RT: What’s your favorite memory with the team?
Anderson: “Beating Ripon at their place my Freshman year was a lot of fun. I think any road win is fun and then just riding the bus with all the guys is fun after a win.”
RT: Does the team have any traditions?
Anderson: “Before the season starts, we usually have a steak dinner as an entire team at the 615 Club in Beloit.”
RT: What does a typical practice look like?
Anderson: “We usually warm up with some transition drills to get the legs loose. Then we do some skill work where we split up into 2 groups, bigs and guards. After that, we may do some shooting drills, or we will go into 5 on 5 scrimmaging, either half court or full court depending on the day. We do a lot of competition based drills and games during practice, which is a lot of fun.”
RT: What are some of your goals in basketball and in life?
Anderson: “For basketball, our goal is to make the conference tournament (have to be top 4 in conference to make it) this year and ultimately win the conference. I think we have a lot of talent this year where we should make some noise in the conference this year without a doubt. For my life, I hope to have a fun last couple of years here at Beloit while having success with the basketball team and then after Beloit, I’ll either maybe try to do a graduate transfer to a different school to use my extra year of eligibility, or just find a job after Beloit in the finance field. I want to live in a big city somewhere in the United States.”
RT: Do you have any superstitions?
Anderson: “Not necessarily, but I usually have an order of how I get dressed for games. With my shoes, I make sure to put the left one on first and then the right shoe, and then tie the left shoe and then tie the right one. Not really a superstition, more of just like a habit I guess.”
RT: Do you have any pets? Names? Breed?
Anderson: “Nope, no pets. Sorry I’m lame. Cats over dogs though.”
RT: If you could have any superpower what would it be?
Anderson: “Either time travel or mind reading. I would love to travel in the past and future to see what things are like, but I would kill to know what other people are thinking on a daily basis.”
RT: If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Anderson: “At some point in my life, I want to take one big trip and travel to a bunch of European countries because I have never been to a different country. I would love to see Rome and all the historical things there
RT: Stance on pineapple on pizza? Why or why not?
Anderson: “YES. It gives a nice citrusy flavor to the pizza, especially if you have some spicy toppings to go with it. Don’t sleep on just straight up pineapple pizza too.”
