Buccaneer basketball comes to an end
The Buccaneer men’s and women’s basketball teams wrapped up their seasons against St. Norbert’s last Saturday, February 17.
The women kicked the game off by recognizing seniors Jaylan Dunn, Melissa McLean,Tegan Rock and Julia Moll on their final game as Buccaneers. Dunn was recently recognized with the Donald “Red” Janssen award for the 2016-2017 athletic year. This is award is given to the top male and female junior athletes at Beloit.
The Bucs started out strong against the St. Norbert Knights, taking over the first quarter 15-14. The Bucs then struggled to fight off the Knights tough defense.
Mclean and Shelby Kline‘19 led the bucs in scoring, dropping in 16 points each followed by Dunn with 12.
Despite the hard fought battle from the Buccaneer men, they couldn’t grasp that season finale win, losing 50-62 to the Knights. Tristan Shoup ‘20 led the Bucs with 15 points and eight rebounds, followed behind Nathan Shead ’21 with 13 points.
Shoup is the only Sophomore to be selected as an All Midwest Conference Second Team. Shoup led the Bucs in points, averaging 18.2 points per game, 8.3 rebounds,a team high of 17 blocks and he also came in second in assists with 61.
Shoup had four games of scoring over 30 points, including a 40 point game against Grinnell, and seven double-doubles for the whole season.
Both men and women’s basketball will have a while until their season begins again in October, but we can’t wait to see what the Bucs will bring to the court next season.
