UConn’s women’s basketball team carries win streak past 100 games
The University of Connecticut’s women’s basketball team has proved itself to be a force to be reckoned with. Not just this year, but over the past few seasons, as they haven’t lost a game since they played Stanford on Nov. 17, 2014.
The Huskies have set a new NCAA record of 101 consecutive wins. They set the Division 1 basketball record with its 91st straight win over SMU on Jan. 14, but they didn’t stop there, and are continuing to dominate against other top teams in the NCAA. Not only has it been 826 days since UConn lost, but they’ve had some pretty incredible stats to come with the wins. First, within the 101 wins, 98 of them have been double-digit wins, meaning only three of their victories have been even remotely close. Furthermore, 56 of the 98 double digit wins were by more than 40 points.
They also have 75 American Athletic Conference wins, and even more impressive, they have never lost in conference play since the AAC was formed in the 2013-14 season. The last lost against Stanford, was a heart-breaking overtime loss 88-86. This loss snapped a 46 game winning streak, giving UConn an amazing 147-1 record in the past 148 games. The Huskies have won two national titles won during the streak, and have won four straight championships and 11 total in program history.
This season, the Huskies have defeated nine ranked teams, including No. 12 Florida State, No. 2 Baylor, No. 15 DePaul, No. 14 Texas, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 4 Maryland, No. 20 USF and, most recently, No. 6 South Carolina. The Huskies still have three more games in the regular season — Temple, Memphis and the University of San Francisco — before they head to the NCAA tournament on March 24.
