Wieseman earns Player of the Year honors

Lana Wieseman’16, a 6’1 forward for the Beloit College Women’s Basketball team from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin (Badger), has been named the Midwest Conference Player of the Year, the Conference Office announced on February 29 when releasing the 2015-16 All-MWC team.

Wieseman is the fifth Buccaneer Women’s Basketball player to earn the honor, the first since Christine Brown following the 2008-09 season.

Wieseman, who is now the all-time leading scorer in Beloit Women’s history, was a First Team selection last season and earned Second Team laurels following the 2013-14 season. She was also recently been named to the All-Central Region First Team.

Players chosen to the All-Region team are eligible for All-American selection. The women’s team will be announced in the week following the Division III women’s semifinals.

This is the 15th year has named an All-Region team and this year’s All-America team will be the 19th annual All-American selections. The All-American teams, along with those of the respective coaches’ associations, are the only ones recognized in the NCAA record book.

Wieseman led the Bucs in scoring (20.7), rebounding (7.3), field goal shooting (52.8%) and blocked shots (28). Her 475 total points broke the record of 468 she set in 2014-15 while her scoring average was the third highest in Beloit history. During the season she recorded three 30-point games, giving her six in her career, including the all-time record of 37 against Monmouth College on February 14, 2015.

Career-wise, in addition to her 1,639 points, she finished as the all-time leader in made free throws with 410; is second in scoring average (17.8) and made field goals (594); third in blocked shots (111); and fifth in rebounding (626).

The Bucs finished the 2015-16 season 9-14 overall, 7-11 in the MWC.
